X-Ray Surgery: Wednesday 29th November

BIRMINGHAM, UK: 23rd October 2006 - Conekt, the engineering consultancy arm of TRW Automotive, is holding a free X-Ray Surgery for industry on Wednesday 29th November.

Following on from an investment of euro 180, 000 investment in a powerful real time 160kV X-ray system, Conekt will open its doors to industry for a 1 day surgery at its UK Technical Centre in Solihull, West Midlands.

Visitors will be able to "drop-in" for a free demonstration and consultation as well as take the opportunity to talk with Conekt's experts about the design and test issues they face.

"Companies are under increasing pressure to guarantee the reliability and quality of their products and components" explained Chris Tarling, business manager for Conekt's Engineering Services Division.

"Our X-ray system surgery will enable us to open our customers' eyes what with its instant high resolution images of components and assemblies to support analytical examinations. In parallel with our design expertise, this will allow our engineers to help clients eliminate design issues that could reduce reliability and increase warranty costs."

The system enables a more detailed non-destructive reliability and failure evaluation. Applications include electronic equipment analysis of solder joints; ball grid arrays (BGA) and printed circuit board (PCB) assemblies. Conekt analyse large castings and metallic components, such as braking or electric drive systems.

BGA inspection also includes semi-automated analysis software for solder ball position, shape and voiding.

Although it is designed predominantly for use in the electronics industry, the system can also be used to carry out high powered examination to discover possible faults, such as assembly or in-service damage, within non-electrical components.

The surgery will be held on Wednesday 29th November 2006 at TRW Conekt, Stratford Road, Shirley, Solihull, B90 4GW. (map)
